Some productions entertain you. Others completely pull you into their world. I’m Every Woman, the stage musical celebrating the life and music of Chaka Khan, did exactly that for me.

Starring my good, good friend Alexandra Burke, this production is playing at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre, and I was genuinely impressed by what I experienced.

A Production That Feels Alive

I had a personal emergency and unfortunately missed the first 20 minutes of the performance. That simply means I will have to make another trip before the show closes on 27 September.

Even though I arrived after the beginning, I was immediately drawn into the atmosphere. The staging was vivid, dramatic and remarkably realistic. At times, I found myself thinking that the stage production was even more powerful than I had imagined.

The show is full of great music, dramatic storytelling and an atmospheric production that keeps your attention from beginning to end. It does not feel like a simple concert. It gives the audience a glimpse into the life, struggles, creativity and extraordinary legacy of one of music’s most distinctive voices.

Chaka Khan’s Music Reimagined

As an artist myself, I was especially inspired by the musical arrangements. I heard fresh interpretations of songs I never imagined could be reimagined in that way.

The production brings together the sound, energy and emotional force associated with Chaka Khan, while presenting her story through a modern theatrical lens. It also features interwoven stories connected to legendary figures including Prince, Stevie Wonder and Joni Mitchell.

There were moments when I simply sat back and allowed the music, movement, lighting and atmosphere to take me somewhere else. For a while, I forgot about my mental-health struggles, small-vessel disease and high blood pressure. I was simply buzzing, enjoying the experience, popcorn, ice cream and far too many soft drinks!

The Power of Word of Mouth

I had seen the promotional material before and thought, “Yes, I’ll get round to it.” Then a close friend told me they had seen the show and described it as brilliantly good.

That sealed it for me.

It is amazing what word of mouth can do. Sometimes a personal recommendation carries more weight than any advertisement. After seeing the production for myself, I completely understood why my friend was so enthusiastic.

Congratulations to the Creative Team

My sincere congratulations to the producers and co-producer. They have created something ambitious, colourful and memorable.

They did a solid job, and I would happily encourage them to hire that creative team again and again. The production demonstrates what can happen when music, storytelling, design and performance are brought together with confidence.

Alexandra Burke as Chaka Khan

Alexandra Burke brings enormous presence, energy and vocal power to the role. Watching her take on the story of such an iconic artist was both exciting and deeply moving.

Alexandra is not only a remarkable performer, but someone I am proud to call a friend. Seeing her command the stage in this production was a special moment for me.

A Must-See Theatre Experience

I will not spoil the story for anyone who has not seen it. My advice is simple: get your tickets and experience it for yourself.

Whether you are a lifelong Chaka Khan fan, a lover of soul and R&B, a theatre enthusiast or simply looking for an unforgettable night out, I’m Every Woman deserves your attention.

I went expecting a good evening. I left feeling entertained, inspired and grateful to have witnessed such an ambitious celebration of music and legacy.

Go and get your tickets. You will not regret it.
