Macy Gray: Phenomenal | A MercyfulGrace Archive Feature

From the MercyfulGrace archive: an early reflection on Macy Gray, creativity and Black cultural storytelling.

This archive entry originally highlighted Macy Gray’s Phenomenal, a stage project connected with Black History Month in Los Angeles. What caught my attention then was the idea of a globally recognised soul artist using her platform not only to entertain, but also to engage with history, culture and education.

These early posts were created in a scrapbook style, often as immediate responses to music, culture and the artists who inspired me. Looking back, they form part of a much longer Macy Gray thread on Aremuorin.me.

That story later became personal through meetings in London and Los Angeles, and in 2026 I brought the different strands together in a new feature exploring I Try, Macy’s career, kindness, philanthropy, new music and touring.
