There is something deeply powerful about witnessing timing do what rejection never could.

A year ago, I had the privilege of introducing Gideon to a casting director for an opportunity connected to Africa Fashion Week London. At the time, the response was simple: he was too young. He would need to wait.

And now, look.

Freshly 18, he was seen again. This time, he was not overlooked. He was recognised. And not only recognised — he was signed by the casting director to his own agency and is now stepping confidently into real work.

That is not just a moment. That is a message.

In a world that often demands instant validation, Gideon’s journey reminds us that growth has its own timing — and that sometimes, what feels like a setback is simply preparation in disguise.

What makes this even more compelling is who Gideon is beyond the surface. Yes, he is striking. Yes, he carries presence. But he is also an engineering student — grounded, focused, disciplined.

That combination matters.

It speaks to depth. It challenges stereotypes. It expands the narrative of what a young Black man can represent in spaces that have not always made room for that fullness.
